COMPETITIVE TEAM TRYOUT SCHEDULE RELEASED

For players looking to accelerate their skill development while experiencing a higher level of competition, AYSL fields competitive teams for boys and girls in the U9 to U18 age groups.  The tryout schedule for the 2012/13 season is shown below.  All tryout sessions will be held at the Walter Fuller Park Soccer Complex.

AYSL SEEKING APPLICANTS FOR STAFF OPENINGS

AYSL is currently seeking applicants for four staff positions, including Recreation Program Administrator and Facility Manager .  These are compensated positions.  Job descriptions, qualifications, applications and contact information for follow-up questions is provided below.  Positions will remain open until filled.

Recreation Program Administrator

  • Responsible for managing AYSL Recreational Program, including organization and preparation of fall registration process; coordinating with Gulfcoast Youth Soccer Association representatives on scheduling of games; providing technical support to recreation coaches; working with registrar on processing of player registration forms, rosters and coaches pass applications; working with uniform coordinator on processing uniform orders and maintaining worksheet files on player, coach and sponsor information. 

  • Good organizational, management and communication skills required.

  • Compensation is $5,000.

Facility Manager

  • Responsible for ensuring field house and equipment is locked and secured and goals are properly anchored prior to games and moved to storage locations by teams after practices and games; corresponding with coaches and team managers regarding field status and issues concerning equipment and fields; assisting teams and league staff with minor net repair and field repairs on game days; providing coaches access to field equipment; ensuring proper storage disposal of paint cans; coordinating with teams regarding field setup and take down responsibilities; and related duties.

  • Good organizational and communication skills and accessibility during the season on game days is required.

  • Compensation is $1,000.

ROWDIES CAMP KIKINTHAGRASS COMING TO WALTER FULLER PARK IN JUNE

Registration is now open for one of the area's most popular youth soccer camps coming to Walter Fuller Park for two week long sessions, June 18-22 and 25-29.  Directed by former Tampa Bay Rowdie players Perry Van Der Beck and Don Tobin, these camps offer competitive and recreational programs for kids ages 5-14.  The June 18-22 session is for competitive players and the later session is for recreational players of all skill levels. U13 LADY EAGLES WIN DIVISION 2 CHAMPIONSHIP

After falling behind in the opening minutes, the U13 Lady Eagles roared back for a decisive 4-1 victory over Suncoast to claim the USA Division 2 title in their final regular season game at Walter Fuller Park on February 11.  Olivia Tiffany scored the tying goal off a rebound in the first half and Regan Burtzlaff followed with a shot that found the left corner of the goal from 15 yards out to put the Eagles ahead.  The Eagles finished the season with a record of 11 wins, 1 loss and 2 ties and a total of 59 points. 

 
AYSL REGULAR SEASON CLOSES WITH POLIFRONE CUP FINALS

AYSL's regular season came to a close on February 12 with the annual Polifrone Cup finals where the best of the leagues U8 and U10 recreation teams square off to determine a champion in each of the age groups.  See the 2012 Polifrone Cup photo album for highlights of the tournament finals and semi-finals.

AYSL AND JUNGLE TERRACE CIVIC ASSOCIATION PARTNER TO WIN GRANT AWARD

Representatives of AYSL and its local neighborhood group, the Jungle Terrace Civic Association (JTCA), were on hand to accept a $2,500 grant award from the Mayor’s Neighborhood Recognition Program at the St. Petersburg City Council meeting on January 19. The program celebrates the commitment of citizens to their community through volunteer efforts aimed at enhancing the quality of life in the neighborhood.  The award recognized the cooperative efforts of JTCA and AYSL to beautify Walter Fuller Park.  The grant funds received will be applied to further enhancement of the Park and to AYSL's scholarship program intended to assist families facing financial hardship with their registration fees.
