ABOUT COMPETITIVE SOCCER

For enthusiastic players seeking a higher level of competition, AYSL fields competitive teams for boys and girls in the U9 to U18 age groups playing under the name of the Azalea Eagles, representing the league's Competitive Program.  The Eagle teams are members of the United Soccer Association (USA) Conference and are affiliated with the Florida Youth Soccer Association (FYSA)

The Under 15 and older age groups play a ten game schedule that begins in August and ends in October.  The Under 9 through 14 age groups play a 14 game schedule that begins in November and ends in February.  AYSL competitive teams also compete in post season play in late February and March.  Post season play for the U11 and older teams involves participating in the Region C Tournament to determine the best teams in West Central Florida.  Teams in the U13 and older age groups are also eligible for FYSA State Cup competition, which is played each year in the spring. The U9 and U10 teams participate in a post-season jamboree format competition played over a single weekend.

The primary difference between competitive and recreational soccer is the professional training the teams receive throughout the season and the level of competition the players experience during practices and games.  In addition, all Competitive Program coaches are required to be licensed with FYSA.  Tryouts for competitive teams are held annually in the spring.  Feel free to email any questions you may have regarding AYSL Competitive Soccer.
